A Deep Dive into the Dictionary!

More than 23 years ago, I was asked to come up with a name for a charity. Almost instantly, I thought of “We Love Gods Children.” I drew the name into a cross-shaped logo and wanted to find something to place underneath it.

That search led me to a dictionary my wife had bought me when we first got married: a 1974 Webster’s New World Dictionary, Second College Edition. The first word I looked up was “gold.”

At the time, I knew nothing about the number connections I would discover later. I was simply looking for words to go with the logo.

Months later, I began looking at words using a simple letter-number system: A = 1, B = 2, C = 3, all the way to Z = 26. Spaces and punctuation do not count. Using that system, I found:

“We Love Gods Children” = 200.

Then I found another phrase with the same total:

“Lord Jesus Christ” = 200.

And something I would always say also fit:

“Love Always Wins” = 200.

Three phrases, each totaling 200. Together, that makes 600. In my dictionary, “gold,” the first word I had looked up for the logo, is on page 600.

I had chosen the name and looked up the word before I knew about those totals. That sequence is part of what makes this so meaningful to me.

When I didn’t find what I wanted beneath “gold,” I turned to my Bible. There, I noticed that the letters in GENESIS could be rearranged to spell SEE SIGN, using every letter exactly once.

That became another thread to follow. What would you make of those first connections?

Using the same letter-number system, SIGN and LORD both total 49. I did not know that at the time. The passage that caught my attention was Genesis 1:26:

“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness:”  INRI Lord In 49 Christ Ir 77 equals 126 Once again the melting point of gold 2600 and Genesis 1:26 reminded me of English and why I started this venture.

My dictionary gives this definition of “sign”: “an act or happening regarded as a miraculous demonstration of divine will or power.” That wording helped explain why I thought of the passage as a sign.

As time went on I started to assign names in the Bible to the elements I don't remember the exact order but I noticed Creator was 80 going to Mercury Hg. Seems to me this represents the Holy Ghost or could it be Henry God.

Henry Cavendish discovered hydrogen, and Antoine Lavoisier named it. What caught my attention is that HYDROGEN rearranges exactly into HENRY GOD, using every letter once.

As I showed in the earlier Ankh post, “Henry” appears on page 654 and “God” on page 599 in my dictionary. Subtracting 599 from 654 gives 55, the page containing “ankh.” What do you make of that connection? Remember the Ankh is two 2's on the top and two 7's on the bottom. This represents Genesis 2:7 God puts soul into man and Noah's Ark Genesis 7:2. Notice the bottom is 77 Christ and the top is 22. If you minus 77 - 22 = 55 same as it's page number. Act of God or coincidence.

HANK rearranges exactly into ANKH, using every letter once. Is it by chance that Hank anagrams to Ankh?

When I look at the word Cavendish is there a dish in a cave? Possible just seems a little strange. Could Hg stand for Henry God?

So when I am not certain but I notice the relationship between Mercury with a atomic weight of 200.59 and Lord Jesus Christ equals 200 so I related the two. Makes sense Jesus is the Son of God. What is strange on page 59 which is the decimal side of hydrogen 59 on that page is antichrist.

For this connection, I use the whole-number part, 200, which brings me back to the three phrases. Separately, the digits after the decimal point, 59, reminded me that “antichrist” is on page 59 in my dictionary. What else is strange is anitchrist in my old dictionary is not capitalized now it's spelled wrong with out the caps? The opposite of 59 is 95 The Almighty.

The letters in ANTICHRIST can also be rearranged to spell RICH TITANS. That is an exact anagram, the Bible warns the rich man. What else I find weird is that the name Rothschild anagrams to Hold Christ and Short Child? I still am not certain if  there is meaning to this but I find it strange. Maybe you could shed some light on this.

Another connection uses initials rather than adding up a whole word. I read CC as “Christ Creator.” Since C is the third letter, the two initials give me 3–3, which I read as 33. That connects, for me, to 137 being the 33rd prime. Many say CC is because Jesus Christ died at 33 by may be it represents CC Christ Creator.

These are different steps: adding letter values, rearranging letters, and reading initials side by side. I want to make each step clear so you can check it for yourself. Do these connections suggest anything to you?

Back to the story. As I followed these connections, I often felt as though something gentle was guiding me. That is how the experience felt to me, and it is part of why I kept looking.

I also want to explain why I use anagrams. LORD totals 49. That led me to look at page 49 in my dictionary.

Finding “anagram” on that page felt like a personal reassurance that this was a thread worth following. I think of it as a “God Spell,” my own way of describing what these rearrangements mean to me.

The word “anagoge” also speaks to what I feel I am doing: exploring a mystical interpretation of Scripture. The letter patterns and number totals are things we can check. Whether they carry a deeper meaning is a question I leave with you.

Now I want to return to the two people connected to the beginning of this story: Diane, my wife, who gave me the dictionary, and Deborah, who asked me to come up with the charity’s name.

For whatever reason, I decided to look up their names in that same dictionary. I will show you the pages and let you decide what you make of them.

This is the page containing Deborah, page 364. The names Diane James Deborah Devon Kyle Melvin Cox bring together my family’s names with Diane and Deborah. Using A = 1 through Z = 26, those names total 364.

Another phrase also totals 364: “Saint Mary’s Church, Dedham, Essex England.” There was a picture hanging over the attic at my dad’s house, and I could see myself and two of my sisters in the painting. That is another personal thread in this story.

Now here is the page containing Diane.

You will notice numbers and other writing around these pages. Those notes began when I was doing this work by hand. Later, after moving to Phoenix and then returning to Ponchatoula in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, I scanned the dictionary. These images show the results of that work.

Among my notes is Luke 1:37: “For with God nothing shall be impossible.” You will also see the words “foreknow” and “predestinate,” followed by James Bendict Cox.

Notice that “Bendict” is missing an E from “Benedict.” That is how my mother wrote it on my hospital certificate. Perhaps she did not realize it, but that spelling became meaningful to me in connections I will show later.

The notes also mention Wild Rose. That brings me back to where this all started. I lived with Deborah at 12 Wildrose Springs Road, in the Wildrose Springs community in St. Charles, Illinois, when she asked me to come up with the name. What is strange is how does Wildrose come up on Diane's page ? To me if shows predestinate and foreknow to be true from Deborah's page.

What made that community unusual for my research was its house numbering. The numbers started at 1 and went up to at least 200, and the lights outside the homes displayed their house numbers. When I came home from work, I would sometimes drive around, notice which porch lights were on, and study those numbers. It was rather crazy, to say the least!

I also want to show you page 389, because it has meaning to me. In my notes, you will see references to “rose” on two pages. My parents’ house was at number 370 in Roselle, Illinois. There is also the “de fide” connection, which you may recall from earlier in the project.

What's crazy to me is that not only does wildrose come to this page but also Periodic Table comes here. The elements are on page 452 which spells Deb. What even makes it crazier is Deborah was born in 54 and I was born in 52.

This page brings another thread into the story: the Periodic Table. In my dictionary, the elements appear on page 452.

Here, I read each digit separately using A = 1 through Z = 26: 4 = D, 5 = E, and 2 = B. Together, they spell DEB, short for Deborah, the person who asked me to name the charity.

This is different from adding the letters in a word. I am reading the three page-number digits as three letters. I will show the elements page later so you can check that connection for yourself.

The diamondback entry also caught my attention. After moving to Phoenix, I associated it with the Arizona Diamondbacks baseball team. Looking back, it felt as though something in this old dictionary connected with a chapter of my life that had not yet happened when I received it. That is how I experienced the connection, rather than something I can establish as a prediction.

I have spent more than 23 years putting these observations together. Some steps are straightforward to check: letter totals, exact anagrams, and the entries on these dictionary pages. What those connections mean is a different question.

These connections are personal to me, so I cannot pretend to be a completely neutral judge. My hope, and my prayer, is that sharing them serves a good cause. You may see something meaningful, or you may think I’ve spent far too much time with this dictionary! Either way, I invite you to check the steps.

What do you think: random chance, a perfect coincidence, or something else?
